Description

YO PROTESTO Roy Brown YOUNG LORDS Puerto Rico VANGUARDIA Latin Liberation Marx. Record has some light surface scratches and scuffs but plays and sounds great on my player. Labels have light wear. Cover has a 4" split at bottom opening, edge wear, age wear and staining. This one came from a Puerto Rican native.

Very hard to find original first pressing of Yo Protesto by Roy Brown. Vangaurdia, 1969. Although released in 1969 to little acclaim, this album went on to become a symbol of the radical left wing groups that rioted at the University of Puerto Rico throughout the 1970's. The songs contained on the LP are considered to be the seeds of the resistance that sprung up in PR. It was considered to be the anthem of the Young Lords Organization and its traditional Puerto Rican folk songs were sung as rights of passage by all Latino revolutionaries throughout the 1970's. The original 1969 pressing of the record was done in a small batch by Vanguardia and had only limited distribution. The songs were later  reissued by the Disco Libre, a label owned by the Puerto Rican Socialist Party.
