HERE'S ONE YOU DON'T SEE EVERYDAY - an ORIGINAL SUPER RARE 1969 pressing of the Young Flower's second album, "Vol. 2" on the German Polydor label, 2444 007.  All the vinyl reissues of this album used a completely different cover, and used the title "Number 2" instead of "Volume 2".  Originals are few and far between.  If you're unfamiliar with the Young Flowers work, take some Cream - the heaviest moments of Cream, like "Politician" - then trip that stuff out with as much flanging, fuzz and wah wah as you can find.  Then borrow some old sound effects reels from the late 60's Pink Floyd, and have an elephant play drums.  If you take all that, and make sure you crank it up to 11, you might come close to the dizzying psychedelic world of the Young Flowers second album, a beast that wants to alter your mind and crunch your bones in one sitting.  Just check out "And Who But I Should Be" - which throws you a little curve with a false acoustic intro, then snaps your neck back with a punishing cosmic barrage of Hawkwind-like psych rock with EVERYTHING FLANGED beyond the normal music-industry-imposed flange limit.  Even Hawkwind at their spaciest would have trouble keeping up with this dizzying instersellar ride, with its constantly changing tempos and brain-frying megadimensional flanging.  Somewhere in the middle of this space massacre, the band breaks for the sound of a UFO taking off, and the sound of girls laughing in the background.  Later near the end of the song, the UFO lands and a baby cries.  What does it all mean, you ask?  Well, if you can figure out "Atom Heart Mother", this one should be no problem.  Just drop me a line when you're finished.  There's also a song here called "Slow Down Driver", which does everything BUT slow down.  It clearly takes its cue from Cream's mighty "Politician" (who also had a driver), a big heavy CRUSHING mastodon of fuzzed-out blues rock with the double percussion of drums and bongos, slipping occasionally back-and-forth into a cool King Crimson-esque jazzy blues shuffle.  Clearly, the Young Flowers' driver wasn't listening.  And if you're a guitar lover, drop the needle down on the 6-minute "Daybreak", another crunching, punishing heavy Cream-inspired blast of acid blooz, this one featuring no less than THREE guitars - one soaring acid guitar, 1 slightly subtler fuzz guitar, and one of those priceless wah wahs on overdrive.  Put it this way - if you're a fan of Cream but found them a little too...er, soft pop...then the Young Flowers have put the crunch back in the Cream's sound.  Eric Clapton would have a hard time being heard in this band's lineup.  A world-class psychedelic MONSTER!  Original 1969 pressing on the German Polydor label.  Cover's in EXCELLENT shape, one side of the record label has some peeling (see pic).  Vinyl plays EXCELLENT, very well preserved!  Winning bidder pays $3.00 media mail shipping in the US, $6 air mail to Canada, $12 air mail everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.  Please check out my other auctions for more pop, psych and garage obscurities.
