Baltimore saxophonist Gary Bartz links up with London collective Your Brother's Keeper for a richly textured session that bridges spiritual jazz lineage with the capital's flourishing modern scene. Bartz remains a commanding presence throughout and his alto lines drift between smoky introspection and full-bodied fire. Maisha drummer Jake Long and pianist Ali MacSween lay down vast and slow-moving foundations of modular haze with rolling percussion and deep bass pressure, Chelsea Carmichael's tenor adding extra bite in places. Elsewhere, Axel Kaner-Lidstrom's trumpet work glows softly through the mix, helping steer the record towards the same cosmic territory explored by Pharoah Sanders and Floating Points on Promises.
