Hello there, come on in and welcome to the auction!

As you can see from my 100% feedback, I sell with complete honesty and reliability.  Above all things I am a record collector and music lover.  I only sell records that I would want to receive. I know well the disappointment of receiving an over-graded record that turns up two weeks late.  That is not the service you will receive here, so bid with total confidence. I don’t sell a lot of records because I spend a lot of time carefully finding, grading and listing them and do not like to rush this process, as many sellers must do to be able to sell 100 records a week!

I am mostly a collector of old time music, pre-war blues and folk, so buy job-lots that often contain rare records that aren’t to my taste so to ebay they go!

On Roger the Engineer, the Yardbirds approached something like the only proper studio album of this classic mid-period line-up. While Keith Relf’s rather anaemic blues yelps were never going to make them the rivals to the Stones or Beatles, the well-oiled rhythm section were perfectly suited to support some of Beck’s wildest sounds to date. From The gloomy chant of "Hot House of Omagarashid" to the cod-Arabian whirlings of “Over Under Sideways Down” these are songs that sit midway between Eel Pie Island and the UFO club. While they still clung to the 12-bar shapes that had seen them through the lean years (“The Nazz Are Blue”) they now had a stunning weapon in Beck’s filigree fills. Just listen to his amazing showboating on “Jeff’s Boogie”.

Here we have the VERY 1st press on the blue Columbia label, which is so very rare in Mono!

The stunning vinyl is housed in the first press front laminated flipback Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve which bears the Patent Pending text that only the very very 1st sleeves do!

The 1st press blue Columbia labels also have the KT tax code present on side 2!

Not only does it have the lowest matrix possible but it also has the very 1st mothers, making this the closest possible pressing of that legendary mother press!

Sleeve Condition.

The 1st print flipback G&L sleeve is in really stunning condition!  There are no rips, writing or splits. The spine is perfectly readable and is lovely and straight.  There is some very mild storage wear to the corners and slight spine nicks and that’s about it.  The colours are as vibrant as they were on the day of release! The original price sticker is on the rear! It’s a stunning 1st press sleeve that won’t disappoint!

Inner Condition.

The 1st press plain white inner is in great condition with no rips, tears, seam splits! Superb

Label Condition.

The 1st press blue Columbia labels are in fantastic condition.  There are no rips, writing or stains to mention. Under a strong light, only mild spindles can be seen, and it’s clear to see that this record has been well cared for!

Vinyl Visual Condition.

The record looks great! It still retains its wonderful shine and lustre after all these years. There are no deep scratches, warping or dulling at all.  There are some hairlines that can’t be felt and have no playback issue at all. It’s clear that this record has not been overplayed which is a true rarity!

Vinyl Audio Condition.

The record sounds superb on all frequencies!  It’s a nice punchy and clear audio throughout! There was some minor static on the occasional run in but I didn’t hear one loud pop throughout. Just 1 or 2 rare slight clicks either side. The band is clearly separable by the ear with a superb dynamic sound from start to finish! This is how the Yardbirds should be heard. A sharp sound that just jumps off the record!

So there we have it.  One of the rarest and earliest presses of the Yardbirds self-titled masterpieces you will ever see! Splendid!!
