Brief Artist & Album Info: Yes had started their career as a covers band, performing radical re-arrangements of hit songs, and their first two albums included covers in this vein. The Yes album was the first to feature group-written material in its entirety. Some familiar elements remained: Anderson, Howe and Squire sang three-part vocal harmony throughout the record, while Squire's melodic bass and Bill Bruford's spacious drumming made up their unique rhythm section. 

Not to be confused with the Band's debut album "Yes"

 "The Yes Album" is the third album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 19 February 1971 by Atlantic Records.  It is their first album with guitarist Steve Howe, who replaced Peter Banks in 1970, and their last in the 1970's to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye. 

The album was the first by the group not to feature any Cover Versions of songs. The band spent mid-1970 writing and rehearsing new material at a farmhouse at Romansleigh, Devon, and the new songs were recorded at Advision  Studios in London in the autumn. While the album retained close harmony singing, Kaye's Hammond organ and Chris Squire's melodic bass, as heard on earlier releases, the new material also covered further styles including jazz piano, funk and acoustic music, with all band members contributing ideas, and tracks were extended in length to allow music to develop. Howe contributed a variety of guitar styles, including a Portuguese guitar, and recorded a solo acoustic guitar piece, "Clap", live at the Lyceum Theater, London.

The album was a critical success and a major commercial breakthrough for Yes, who had been at risk of being dropped by Atlantic Records due to the commercial failures of their first two albums. It reached number 4 in the United Kingdom and number 40 in the United States, and was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for surpassing one million copies. The album has been reissued on CD several times, and was given a Blu-ray release in 2014 remixed by Steven Wilson.

CONDITION

LABELS: The Plum Atlantic Labels are are both in Beautiful condition. There are some Very slight Spider and Spindle marks visible. There is no Writing or Tears anywhere. I will grade them as Ex+!!!!

VINYL: Plays throughout absolutely Superb with no Pops, Clicks or Jumps. The record still contains that glossy sheen though there are several surface marks, light scratches (Non Feelable) and thumbnails to be seen, these in NO way interfere with the superb sound quality. This Album plays up to and  beyond its high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. It offers strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. A typical polished production from Yes. Minimal surface sound and no tracking issues. This play-grade proved a real pleasure when playing this fast disappearing album, this being the first example I have had for some time, and possibly the best all-round one for me yet. It will prove quite difficult to find a significantly better copy and merits a very strong recommendation. I would grade both sides as Very Good+/Very Good++!!!! If it looked as good as it played back I would most certainly give it at least an Excellent!!!!

COVER: This is a Gatefold format printed and made by MacNeill press Ltd. London. SE1. The front cover was shot by Phil Franks.The inside of the album's gatefold sleeve shows Kaye playing a Hammond organ, while the front cover showed his leg in plaster, following his accident. Anderson is credited as "John Anderson" on the album but he had dropped the "h" from his first name by the next album "Fragile". 

The Cover does show some signs of age. There are some Ceases showing, notably 6 to the left hand side of front, and 4 to the right hand side of the back. These are not Splits. The Spine is knocked to both corners and the title "The Yes Album" is Slightly rubbed and the letters TH are unreadable. Inside the gatefold is in decent order.

This cover is incredibly difficult to find in Excellent condition simply because of it's design and age. However I would be happy enough to grade this as Good!!!!

COVER SUMMARY: Not seen often. This one is in decent condition. This classic cover (As Described) should please Many collectors.

INNER SLEEVE: The Plain White Inner Sleeve UK Patent NO.1072844. Made In England R.s. 1-78 . Is Graded as Very Good+!!!!

Album Played For Grading: I play/grade ALL records I offer before submitting, I also play them in their entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness I play from the beginning to end. I use a Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge and Linn Lingo, with my Linn system and Forest Totem Speakers. This system is guaranteed  to pick up any distortion or interference within the sound.

Grading: In my opinion I REFUSE to believe that there is ANY record that can be truly graded as Mint, the BEST that could be offered is Mint- (minus)!!!! Especially so from the 50's, 60's, 70's or up to the present date!!!! Even copies bought new today would have some form of imperfection on the Record or Cover!!!! Under that assumption I will NEVER use the word Mint in any of my descriptions and Mint- is the HIGHEST grade I would ever use. So I will only offer Excellent, Good or Poor with a -(minus), +(plus) or ++(plus,plus)!!!!

Postage: All of my records will be professionally packaged. I use Dependapack Vinyl Record Mailers that have locking tab closures with strong locking tab record wraps. I also use corrugated record stiffeners and extra strong tape marked with Handle With Care. This is to ensure your Valuable Record/s are protected whilst in transit. I will add a nominal fee of .40p to my postage and packaging for this service.
