Description
An original 1st press of Yessongs on the UK Atlantic label. Matrix A1/B1/C1/D1/E1/F1 - very 1st cut. Please note that the labels are consistent with very 1st press and exhibit no WB logo in the perimeter text. An added bonus, here, is that this set of vinyl is pressed very heavy [heavier than i'm used to seeing]. The vinyl comes housed in an original concertina style cover made with very heavy card. Now, please be aware that at 1st release there were some copies that went out with a book-style cover. These are the very very 1st copies and the switch to concertina style happens quickly at 1st release. We also have the original photo booklet, but none of the original inner sleeves are present. We will transport in three fresh new poly-lined inners for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex+) In beautiful condition and it's hard to imagine finding any copy looking better preserved. They are all shiny and have that feel of a newly pressed record. You will note we are not grading as nearmint as there's one or two bag-rash superficial marks in places. But they are most certainly the closest you're ever going to get to that sort of grading. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one minor deviation. As far as I can make out there's one slight low-level issue in the opening section of "Firebird Suite" right at the start of side 1 [before the band come out] - and then for the remainder of the SIX sides you'll get treated to some sublime audio reproduction. Let's start with the deviation...during the Stravinsky intro.. expect a few low level crackles and low-level ticks [very minor]. This only occurs in that intro and as soon as the band come out and physically/actually start - then it's all gone. From there on in you're going to get solid EX+ standard all the way through with nothing more than a touch of light static momentarily in 'Henry VIII', and again in the opening seconds of 'Your Move', and two light ticks in 'Mood For A Day'. And I can vouch for the sound quality having listened to many copies. Is it the fact that it's a near-master copy, or is it the superb preservation levels, or the heavier pressing...?.I'm sure it's all of these factors that combine to give you an unrivalled level of performance. Any self-respecting YES nut needs to seriously consider this copy.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Well, I can assure you that you're not going to find a cover that will get anywhere even close to this example in a hurry. These Yessong covers are an absolute nightmare to find in even half decent condition. This copy is by far the best example I've set my eyes upon. Beautifully clean front...absolutely pristine with no indentation, creasing, wear, or discolouration. Same with the rear - faultless. The interior panels continue this theme - perfect. Edge wear is almost totally absent and the openings are still nice and sharp. The spine is closing in on perfect - we will be picky and mention the tiniest wear in a couple of spots. The cover appears to be made out of unusually heavy card and retains perfect rigidity. FINAL UPGRADE!!
Booklet (Ex) One slight crease. But has that factory fresh feel to it.
