Description
This is a stunning original example of an awesome psych LP entitled 'Lumpy Gravy - The Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Synphony Orchestra & Chorus' by the unique Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. It is their fourth album and this is a stereo pressing. This LP was originally released in 1968 on the UK Verve Records label (catalogue no. SVLP 9223). The album features a huge assembly of musicians with Zappa controlling everything as usual.
OUTER SLEEVE - This is the original flipback type gatefold sleeve which is laminated on the front and back and is in superb condition. There is some minor wear and creasing on the front as well as some almost invisible marks. The top and bottom edges are in lovely condition with no damage. The spine which is almost 10mm wide is in great condition and the wording along the spine is 100% readable. The flipbacks are in beautiful condition with some very minor wear and creasing. The rear of the sleeve is superb and shows very minor wear. It states on the inside of the sleeve 'MAGNIFICENTLY ENGINEERED BY : JOE, REX, JIM, BOB & GARY - THIS ALBUM WAS RECORDED IN FEBRUARY OF 1967 - Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.'. There are all sorts of other messages on the inner portion of the sleeve. The only minor blemishes on this sleeve are on the mouth where there is some very minor 'feathering'. I have graded the sleeve Ex++.
INNER SLEEVE - This is a plain white paper sleeve with no polythene lining.
RECORD - The record itself looks very clean with some very superficial minor marks which do not affect the quality of the recording. There is very little surface noise. There are occasional very minor pops and clicks but these definitely do not detract from the overall quality of the record. There are definitely no jumps or skips on any of the tracks. The labels are in lovely condition with some minor spindle marks. There is no damage to the labels on either side. These are black with silver wording and they feature the original Verve Records logo. It states at the top of each label - 'M.G.M. RECORDS LTD - MADE IN GT. BRITAIN - SOLD IN THE U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS - MADE UNDER LICENCE FROM METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER INC., OWNERS OF THE TRADE MARK - VERVE'. The matrix numbers (V6 8741A - side one - and V6 8741B - side two) are printed on the right side of each label. At the bottom of each label it states - 'Produced by Frank Zappa'. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are as follows - side one - V6 8741A - 1G (stampers 1 G) - side two - V6 8741B - 1G (stampers 1 R). I have graded the record as Ex++ and I believe that this is very fair. I try to grade everything as accurately and conservatively as possible and I never grade anything as mint. The winner of this auction will not be disappointed and will not find a better example of this fine early Zappa/Mothers LP.
