PLEASE READ: I'm a professional collector with a massive and growing personal collection which has started to outgrow my media room. First things first, this is not an official copy. Zero 7's self-released, self-titled debut, commonly referred to as EP1, was limited to 1000 copies. I currently have two copies, but I am not about to part with one of them. I have two copies of the reissue as well, and until I figure out how many copies were pressed I'm keeping both of them (reissue details in the next paragraph). I also own 2 "unofficial" copies, and I really only need one copy for regular rotation. This auction is for one of those unofficial copies. It is cosmetically different (I'll explain shortly) but identical in audio quality, and these days almost as rare as the original.

The self-titled 12" EP Zero 7 released in January of 2000 was limited to 1000 copies. A later official repressing included the same artwork and identifying marks and etchings, except the color of the artwork and vinyl label were tinted more toward a tan and dark yellow respectively (the originals were more grey tinted). I don't know how many copies were officially repressed, but I think it's safe to say there were at least another 1000 copies put into circulation. Since the demand still far exceeded the supply, and unknown quantity of "unofficial" copies appeared. These have similar (virtually identical) vinyl labels, but come in a plain brown sleeve instead of the original picture sleeve (also a different runout etching). [Note: if you see a copy out there with a picture cover, it's an official copy, but that doesn't mean it's one of the original 1000 from the 1st pressing. It's hard to explain the subtle differences between the 1st and 2nd pressings unless you can see them side by side.]

All three tracks from the A Side appeared on their debut full-length album Simple Things released 15 months later (I've been told that these are different mixes than the versions on Simple Things, and if that's true the differences are too subtle for my ear to notice, but I suppose it is possible). The real prize here is the B Side. The first track on this side is "Lo" and while a different mix appeared on the 2CD version of their greatest hits album Record, this is the only Zero 7 release with this track (and it's only other appearance is on a Layo & Bushwacka! compilation mix CD released with the August 2000 issue of Muzik Magazine). The second track, and one of my all-time favorite Zero 7 songs, is "One Arm Break" and this is the only official release of this song in any format (I'm referring here to the "official" pressings of EP1). This instrumental is such a cool song I can't believe it hasn't shown up on even some rare compilation CD somewhere, but it hasn't. I love Simple Things, but for me their early remixes and earlier instrumentals are as good or better (except no Sia, Sophie, Tina or Mozez).

This copy is near mint. It would be mint except for one mark on the b-side. It looks like a wide scratch, but feels elevated and not like a scratch would. You can (sort of) see it in the photo of the B Side, straight to the right from the tracklist on the label. It could be something coated onto the vinyl, but whatever it is, it does not affect playback in any way. This has been played many times, and has been my go-to copy whenever I want to play this album, but I take excellent care of my vinyl and the A Side looks unplayed (the B-Side would too if not for the one mark I mentioned). I guarantee this album will play with no skipping or added noise of any kind. Additionally, there is no real difference in sound quality between the official and "unofficial" versions, the only difference is dollar value.

I recommend international buyers wait for an invoice before paying. Also, if I overcharge on International Shipping I will refund the difference - I'm not trying to profit on shipping, I just want to make sure I get enough to cover the costs. Sometimes I am able to ship for almost half what I charge (I try to do this whenever possible, but it depends on how I package the items and the final weight/measurement of that package). If I do ship for less, the difference gets refunded immediately after shipping. Always.
