Gallotone GB 1965
Artist: De Black Evening Follies
Tracks: Ngati Pembere / Pa Shangaan
Terrific group from Zimbabwe, with a Mills Brothers vocal feel, but with strumming South African rhythm guitars and a nice trumpet, saxophone, and band. Moses Mpahlo was the leader of the Follies, and they sing in Shona. A very nice example of how American pop and jazz mixed with South African musical styles and rhythms. Very rare disc. Recorded in the mid-1950s or so.
Condition: EE+ (few light marks, very nice)
