Groundbreaking experimental album from Zoltan Jeney with works for sine-wave generators, ring-modulators and ancient plates.
Some info on the release: Rare hungarian release on the Hungaroton label by experimental music composer Zoltan Jeney featuring works from the period 1973-1978. The compositions on this record show a high level of inventivess and artistic qualities, first with Impho 102/6 written for six ancient plates, one of the most beautiful pieces of the album, after with A Hundred Years' Average, for 2 sine-wave generators, ring modulator, electronics and viola. The record is completed by the excellent Orpheus' Garden and End Game. Highly recommended and very hard to find!!
Zoltán Jeney is a Hungarian composer. Jeney first studied piano and attended Pongrácz's composition classes at the Debrecen Secondary Music School, later continuing composition studies with Ferenc Farkas at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest (1961-66), and the pursuing postgraduate studies with Goffredo Petrassi at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome (1967-68).
Jeney's earliest compositions show the influence of Béla Bartók, Luigi Dallapiccola, Anton Webern, Alban Berg, the new Polish school, György Kurtág, and Szolt Durkó. In the late 1960s, he began to take an interest in Pierre Boulez's theories, Karlheinz Stockhausen's compositions, and oriental philosophy—a direction intensified as a result of his contact with Cage's thought. In the 1970s Jeney began composing music in the minimal style, and his works are often characterized by an extremely spare and static quality. In 1981 he was guest lecturer at a Summer composition seminar in Poland, and was invited by Luigi Nono to organise concerts of new Hungarian music to celebrate Bartók’s 100th anniversary in Italy. Since 1986 Jeney has been a professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary where, since 1995, he has served as Head of the Department of Composition. Several of his compositions have been released on the Hungaroton label. He is one of the most important contemporary hungarian composers together with Laszlo Dubrovay, Janos Decsenyi, Barnabas Dukay, Zsolt Durko, Peter Eotvos, Bela Farago, Miklos Kocsar, Gyorgy Ligeti, Laszlo Sary and Jozsef Soproni.
Condition: Vinyl lie in excellent condition, looks to be very clean and with the exception of a tiny spot on side a:, which produces a slight noise for some rounds, sounds perfect with some occasional crackle, while cover lies in excellent- condition, with sharp edges, no splits or other defects, but shows to be a lit bit "dirty" from storage.
