Recorded at Abbey Road in 1967 and released the following year after the group had already disbanded, Odessey and Oracle has long been considered the Zombies' crowning achievement, and this new edition marks the first appearance of the original mono mix since its initial UK pressing, with the bonus of a first-ever US release. The record captures the band at their most ambitious, fusing baroque pop detail with psychedelic colour: the bright harpsichord swing of 'Care of Cell 44', the pastoral melancholy of 'Beechwood Park', and the anti-war lament of 'Butchers Tale (Western Front 1914)'. Of course, it closes with the immortal 'Time of the Season', a track that outlived the band's split to become a worldwide hit. Faithfully remastered and bolstered by new notes from David Fricke, it's a definitive return for a record often hailed as one of the greatest British pop albums ever made.
