ZOOT SIMS, ‘SOLO FOR ZOOT’ A VERY RARE 1962 UK STEREO FONTANA RECORD LABEL VINYL LP CATALOGUE NUMBER, 886 151 TY.

This rare album was Recorded live at the Ronnie Scott Club, London on the 14th & 15th November 1961and is the much rarer Stereo Issue.

John Haley "Zoot" Sims (October 29, 1925 - March 23, 1985) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor and soprano. He was born in Inglewood, California, the son of vaudeville performers Kate Haley and John Sims. His father was a vaudeville hoofer, and Sims prided himself on remembering many of the steps his father taught him. Growing up in a performing family, Sims learned to play both drums and clarinet at an early age. His brother was trombonist Ray Sims. Following in the footsteps of Lester Young, Sims developed into an innovative tenor saxophonist. Throughout his career, he played with big bands, starting with those of Kenny Baker and Bobby Sherwood after dropping out of high school after one year. He played with Benny Goodman's band in 1943 and replaced his idol Ben Webster in Sid Catlett's Quartet in 1944.

Both record labels are in superb undamaged Near Mint condition, very clean and bright undamaged record labels with nothing more than a few signs of play around the centre of each record label.

Side 1 matrix information: AA8861511Y#2#420 and Side 2: AA8861512Y2#420.
Both sides of the heavy quality LP are in superb Excellent Plus condition, super clean, bright vinyl surfaces to both sides with just a few light non sounding surface hairlines.

The LP plays through both sides without faults.

The LP comes in a Made in England poly lined inner bag, and is protected in it’s original heavy quality constructed Picture sleeve. The sleeve is in superb Excellent Plus condition. This is a very nice sleeve, glossy to the front panel with it’s original Full Stereo Sticker adhered to the front just beneath the Fontana logo. There are no tears or seam splits just a couple of small laminate bubbles and tiny corner bumps.

The reverse panel of the sleeve is super clean with just a few age spots or foxing.

This is a beautiful example of this rare early 1962 Stereo album from Zoot Sims.
