Description

Album / Record Title: ZABRISKIE POINT   ULTRA RARE - Undoubtedly one of the most collectible ‘soundtrack’ psychedelic rock albums.  It’s exceptionally hard to find one of the UK EARLIEST FIRST PRESSINGS & FIRST ISSUE ON THE ORIGINAL MGM BLUE / GOLD ‘WAVE’ LABEL WITH THE ORIGINAL ISSUE CATALOGUE NUMBER MGM-CS-8120. The catalogue number is significant because they are slightly more frequently seen as the mid 70’s second issue variant with the same design label but with catalogue number 2315 002 - these are often claimed by sellers to be the first issue but although they are perfectly good pressing they are not the originals. As far as I can tell the stamper codes indicate that this is one of the very earliest first pressings. This is the UK original housed in a Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated cover with backflips.    Artists: PINK FLOYD, KALEIDOSCOPE, GRATEFUL DEAD, PATTI PAGE, THE YOUNGBLOODS, JERRY GARCIA, ROSCOE HOLCOMB, JOHN FAHEY   Recording Format: STEREO   Record label: ORIGINAL MGM BLUE / GOLD LABEL WITH CENTRAL WAVE, BLACK LOGO & PRINT & COPYRIGHT   Catalogue Number: MGM-CS-8120   Country of origin and first published date: GREAT BRITAIN 1970   Vinyl ‘run off’ matrices side 1:     MGS 2154-1 Vinyl ‘run off’ matrices side 2:     MGS 2155-2   Vinyl ‘run off’ stampers side 1:    1 & 0 Vinyl ‘run off’ stampers side 2:    0
Okay, that's the hype I've copied and edited from someone else who had a similar first issue copy.  Here's the story re: condition.  Sleeve has a good many signs of wear, faint surface scratches and one or two marks on front. Top spine has some wear and is split for about an inch to top left.  Back is okay but a bit grubby.  Price at time of purchase (28/-) in pencil on back.  Edging of lamination has shrunk back on front and flips, and a bit of dirt has accumulated at edges (just about visible in pics).  I would rate it good to very good - no major damage, just 40 + years' wear and tear.
Vinyl similarly has some wear, light surface scratches, some fingermarks, mainly on outer rim.  Plays really well though, very occasional surface noise is all I heard.  I'd say very good condition.
This lp has sold for quite large sums.  I'm starting it at £30 because of the wear and slight deterioration I've described.  But it's a good copy, worth whatever it goes for.
