Description
The Zombies produced one of the top 10 British Collectible LP's in my opinion, when creating this 1967 unquestioned masterpiece. The price has risen and risen on ebay over the last 24 months and a mint minus copy recently sold for $600 US on ebay. This is an original Stereo version on CBS S63280. It was the next album recorded at EMI's Abbey Rd Studio's after Sgt Pepper. The Zombies used much of the same engineering set up & equipment which it took George Martin and the Beatles endless months to set up. This was a self produced album, which given all factors is very very close in stature to it's famous Beatles predecessor.
Please read the following very carefully as I fully value my 100% feedback and the item will be honestly & accurately described. The sleeve is at least Very Good plus with a little bit of discoloration on the reverse, but nothing serious. The spine is intact and the colours on the front of the famous Terry Nash cover are still vivid. The vinyl is of varied condition across the tracks. there are pops, crackles and surface marks, but definitely no jumps as I have played the album meticulously to check. Side 2 has a few opening crackles in the first 10 seconds of track 1 but otherwise qualifies as very good plus condition as the music covers most crackles adequately.
On side one, the first three tracks are playable, but the crackles get louder towards the end of Care of Cell 44 and are significant on the quieter song "A Rose for Emily" and the beginning of "Maybe after she's Gone". This can still be made bearable by turning down the Treble. The other songs are less affected and the last three play nearly as well as side 2. With all factors taken into account, the album still ranks as very good overall.
If you are looking for a Mint or Excellent copy, then you should look elsewhere and be prepared to pay £300/£400. This copy at a VG grading is in my view (based on Record Collector Grading) worth approx half of those sums. If you are looking for a playable copy of this album until you acquire an excellent or mint copy then this is ideal.
The deserved but belated respect the Zombies are attracting in the UK is very heartning but long overdue. They have rightly achieved supergroup status in the US & fans included Elvis, Jimi Hendrix and Tom Petty in addition to JohnLennon and George Harrison. This album has been voted at No 80 in a "Rolling Stone" all time US albums pole dominated by American Artists. This should be a cornerstone of any decent UK Collection. I am only selling this copy because I have obtained a better copy at enormous expense! Even then I would rather keep it than sell it for less than say £100.
