Zoot Sims Quartet Zoot w. Johnny Williams Argo mono DG blackZoot Sims Quartet ' Zoot ' ARGO LP 608 (USA) mono black label with deep groove - rec. in Chicago 1956 - issued in 1956 - original first issue with color cover
Zoot Sims : tenor, alto sax - Johnny Williams : piano - Knobby Totah : bass - Gus Johnson : drums Side A : 920 special - The man I love - 55th and state - Blue room Side B : Gus's blues - That old feeling - Bohemis after dark - Woody' n you
Visual grading : record is VG still with some lustre has a several light surface marks and some tiny lines on both sides. Nothing is deep or feelable except a light scratch barely visible on third track of side A. Clean labels with some spindle wear Playing grading : record is GOOD plays fairly well with a clear sound but unfortunately has 1 skip and 1 sticking on 3rd track of side A, due to the above mentioned scratch, and also another sticking on last track of side B. Has a light background noise, below music's level, in quieter parts and has some occasional ticks.
Even with all these faults the sax playing of Zoot is still enjoyable Cover grading : cover is VG- has wear to corners, edges and spine. Top right corner has been repaired for a large seam split and is also bumped. A couple of tiny pieces of paper are missing on the spine. On top edge of back has a trace of tape's removal
