Description
new orleans soul---a behind-the-scenes GIANT of R&B who cut this 1st solo album in 1958 and then didn't go solo again until the 70's, by which time his prowess as songwriter, arranger-producer was legendary. he formed the cult soul group, the Meters worked/arranged/played (new orleans WILD piano and vocals) with ernie-k-doe, irma thomas, jessie hill, chris kenner, barbara george, lee dorsey, the showmen, etc. his songs were covered by a wide range of diverse people including, robertt palmer, bonnie raitt and glen campbell (?!?) who had a monster hit with toussant's 'southern nights'---in the 'all music guide to rock' his listing is laced with the word 'genius' many times and they rate this album FIVE stars!!! they call it 'an obscure rarity' it books for over $300 if you can find it in any reference book. confrere and adherent to the huey "piano" smith and ray charles school of R&B. title of this LP was " the wild sound of new orleans by tousan'---he was performing in new orleans clubs at the time when he recorded this LP under the name, 'al tousan'---all tracks actually recorded in new orleans. came from a radio station collection and, except for a scuff on one track, the record looks MINT- with stunning original gloss. original RCA U.S. 1958 release. original onion skin sleeve---cover retains most of its gloss but there is a LIGHT radio station marker # in upper left. sooooo rare a piece of vinyl in this condition!!!
