THE BEACH BOYS: SMILE 1990 Brother Records blue red green triple vinyl set vinyl: EX / very low milage cover: all seams 100% intact, some shelfware, corner creases. insert: Smile session log!
This is NOT the same digitally re-jigged stuff on the SMiLE Sessions double vinyl set. Nor is this the sessions on the multi cd SMiLE Sessions. These are mixes and edits of the 'best' takes as they were left back in the day--the 'real' unfinished SMiLE.
This was pressed around the time of the original first wave of capitol cds (the 2-fers), when the vaults were first culled for unreleased material for bonus tracks, predating even the "Good Vibrations" box that became the first widely available release of Smile music.
This set shows how the abandoned Smile recordings were left in 1967, way before Smile's resurrection in the 21st century--or even before cherry-picking and 'polishing off' Cabinessence and Surf's Up in '69 and '72.
Where did all those home-grown Smile compilations we all traded come from back in the 90s? right here! Needless to say, this set will be nowhere more at home than right next to your SMiLE Sessions 2x lps.
Note: the cover uses the capitol mid-60s "full diminsional stereo" banner on the front (from production proofs made by capitol back in the day) and the "mono microgroove" boiler-plate text on the rear, but the music is mono, like all Brian's work from that period. Compared to the more recent SMiLE Sessions the audio fidelity of this set is not as super-sparkling, not having been sourced from multi-tracks, but it likely does reflect what these mix-down dub sources sound like.
