Peter Gabriel's Third Solo Album Performed Entirely in German
Up for auction is my copy of Ein Deutsches Album, the German-language version of Peter Gabriel's self-titled third solo album (commonly known as "Melt" for its iconic cover image). This is the complete album re-recorded with Gabriel singing all the lyrics in German — not simply a translated sleeve, but an entirely different vocal performance.
About this record: Following the success of his third album in 1980, Peter Gabriel re-recorded the entire album in German for the European market. This was part of Gabriel's practice during this era of recording complete alternate versions of his albums in different languages, making them unique collector's items rather than mere regional pressings. Features German-language versions of "Games Without Frontiers" ("Spiel Ohne Grenzen"), "Biko," "Intruder," "No Self Control," and more.
How I got this: This LP was given to me by a friend who worked for Polygram Records.
Condition:
- Cover: Good to Very Good — Some visible scuffing is present on the sleeve from before it came into my possession. It has been kept in a protective plastic sleeve ever since. Please review the photos carefully.
- Vinyl: Very Good — No visible scratches on the disc. However, from my memory of playing this years ago, there was some slight popping audible in a couple of places. I have not played it recently to confirm, so please factor this into your assessment.
A bit about me: I'm not a dealer or collector—just someone clearing out things I've accumulated over the years. This has been stored upright in a protective sleeve in a smoke-free, climate-controlled home since I received it.
