PLAYS CLEAN!

Plenty rare =mid '60s= ORIGINAL LP...seldom ever seen, this is a Rumanian-only released GARAGE/BEAT band was issued circa 1965, containing a cool British Invasion/US garage sound for good reason! The Federals were not Rumanian, but an entirely British crew with Tony Kaye (keys) who would find fame with the UK progrressive group, YES.  The Federals Lp is recorded with the glorious old sixties BIG-BEAT MONO sound... gotta be the best act released back then to this primitive country... The Federals were no doubt inspired by BEATLES and STONES "'60s mania" (they had worked with the Beatles producer George Martin!)... the group contains two members from the UK beat-rock band, the Savages.

The Lp is inspired and rocked-up throughout with accessible English vocals. Good luck finding a better first pressing! Don't know much about this band.

Formed early sixties in Watford, UK , The Federals were signed early on by Parlophone Records in 1963. They released a couple of '45s up to 1965, with a style much reminding of the Beatles, no surprise when they were produced by George Martin. But non of them sold and the group dissolved soon after. One of many aspiring bands at the time that didn't make it and either reshaped in some way or just disappeared. However, the total mystery is that they 1965 made an LP in Romania, but who set it up, circumstances for recording or exactly who their leader, singer Tony Bolton was, remains unknown. All cuts are exclusive to this issue. Bolton has a nice voice, not entirely professional but with  a certain personal charm and the harmonies together with the other singer Frank Milne works well. Backing is tight, but sometimes sounding unrehearsed; there are quite a few flubs and flaws showing there were no retakes or cover-ups, which remains the 'real deal' collectors prefer. We especially like the three Lennon/McCartney songs best, especially "World Without Love" - direct, almost naked with nice vocals and basic organ. A fine example of early sixties UK beat, with one notable difference. If made in UK it would have been treated with some kind of compression/limiter device in the production, equalizing the parts in volume and level, making it somewhat softer and more commercial sounding. Apparently no such things were used on this and the outcome sounds 100% authentic - very dynamic with all rough edges still there. The pressing and audio is just fine and all together a very good listen. Only issued in Romania. Label variations exist, but as far as we understand this yellow type label was '65 first press on heavy inflexible vinyl with thin glossy cover, that is impossible to find without some wear.

CONDITION: The cover: Very very fragile, very delicate, 53 years of age, there are probably NO mint copies, rather all survivors have some type of shelf wear. This copy is a decent VG(+) with light wear but NO split seams, no bends, no writing... finding a better copy would be more than hard, especially with the clean vinyl here!

 The vinyl: rated: "EX" (excellent) VERY clean , plays perfect! The MONO release from 53 years ago is hard to beat! Clean MONO Electrecord labels too!
