Description

No Label name or number  ~  THE HYE*STARS  ~  '70-'74

Original 1974 private pressing. Group of young Armenian-Americans from Chicago who were counselors at Hye Kamp in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, a youth camp for Armenian kids. The liner notes explain that Hye means Armenian. Recorded as a keepsake when the group broke up in 1974 and pressed in a very small quantity, the LP includes songs they played from '70-'74. They sound like an early 70s equivelent of a 60s garage band. Recording and musicianship is rather primitive - and that's a good thing! No original songs but most are attacked with blasting 60s-style fuzz guitars making them barely recognizable. Their version of Bread's "Mother Freedom" would easily pass for a lost, late 60s heavy fuzz track! Condition:   "Cold Turkey" has a scratch toward the end that causes some pops. You can hear it in the sound clip. Otherwise Cover and vinyl are VG with general wear. Plays with some light surface noise in the quieter spots. The vinyl could use a good cleaning on a VPI.
