one of the best all time records by hank mobley. i would never give this one up but i have been fortunate enough to acquire two this nice.
for what it's worth (not much), goldmine books this one at $150 in NM, and this copy is between VG+ and NM using goldmines very conservative standard.
vinyl: played recently both sides, surface noise like new and no ticks. a crisp and clear mono recording of some of the best 60s bop on vinyl. there is a scuff on side one that does not sound at all, but knocks the grade down to a solid VG+. remember, a goldmine VG+ has to play like new, and this one does.
jacket: like new, goldmine NM except for minor shelf rub on the top and bottom seams, and an abraded corner tip. a nice fresh copy with near perfect front cover, and light contact ink smudges on the reverse white background.
labels: like new, minty as they come
content: check out www.allmusic.com, most of the reviews found in ebay listings come from this wonderful free resource.
grading: i resist 'goldmine' grades, they are high end collector grades, and completely misused by most ebay sellers. read the description for VG+ and you will see that there can be slight visible marks 'that do not affect the listening experience'. that means no audible defects; no surface noise or scratch ticks. i scan the entire surface of the vinyl directly under a halogen lamp and describe what i see and feel
background: i have been a jazz student of nominal means all my life. i acquired these not as collectibles with the intent to resell, but to advance my musical education. i'm getting old and cannot afford the space to keep them all, nor the energy to lug them around anymore. thanks for your interest, and enjoy america's indigenous music, jazz.
On Nov-24-06 at 17:14:50 PST, seller added the following information: lest i leave anyone with the impression that the jacket is NM, the mentioned abraded corner and the shelf rub will knock the goldmine grade down in the VG+ range, though i would argue for a strong VG+. thanks.
