If you are a Johnny Cash fan and didn’t know what to ask for for Christmas, or if there is a hard-to-buy-for collector on your gift list, here is a fantastic item just in time for the holidays!
Up for auction is a very rare and intriguing set of 2 LP records that contain twelve 5-minute radio spots featuring JOHNNY CASH on behalf of the Social Security Administration, produced in 1973. Title is "THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW."
This set of 5-minute radio programs were produced by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Social Security Administration.
In each of the twelve 5-minute segments, which are banded for airplay, you will hear Johnny deliver approximately a minute of introduction and commentary about Social Security benefits, following which he introduces one of his records which plays in its entirety, and then it’s back to Johnny to say farewell for another week and invite the listener to join him at the same time next week.
Condition of the vinyl is impeccable NEAR MINT. These appear to be unplayed. One of the discs has a slight bit of surface noise at the very beginning due to storage, but otherwise they sound clean and pristine as you can hear in the accompanying sound clip. With only 15 minutes per side, the sound quality is exquisite.
The jacket is in fairly good shape with nice bright colors, no splits or writing, however there are some stains that it seems to have picked up in storage for so many years. Labels are clean and pristine.
I have selected one of the tracks to provide you with a representative sound clip containing the full intro, the beginning of that week’s tune (Daddy Sang Bass), and the end of the tune along with Johnny’s farewell message.
