Pardon the expression, but this initial "Soul Train" TV show theme song is truly a Rinkydink record. This is a certified Soul/King Curtis-inked funk recording that nearly a decade after release became the very first opening theme for the popular TV show ''Soul Train.'' GREAT RECORDING!!!! Don't miss the boat on this one!!!!! This is the ORIGINAL 1963 version on Bobby & Danny Robinson's Enjoy label out of New York City. This is NOT Motown or some Detroit combo (as some ebay sellers would have you believe). A King Curtis expert says that Curtis was indeed a guitar player as well as a reed man, and Curtis was the guitarist on this 1963 Enjoy release Hot Potato Pts. I & II by a group called the Rinkydinks. Ever the entrepreneur, Bobby Robinson changed the name 'Rinkydinks' to 'Ramrods' and re-issued (re-released) the exact same two sides as ''Soultrain Parts 1 & 2'' (Rampage 1000) in 1972. It would spend five weeks on the Billboard R&B chart that summer, climbing as high as #41... not bad for a 10-year-old recording! At the time, Soul Train was the most talked about dance show in the country and King Curtis' Rinkydings aka Ramrods provided the theme.
