Description
Artist: NEWBAN
Title: “Newban”
Label: GUINESS RECORDS ~ GNS 36004. Original stereo pressing on medium weight vinyl. Label is orange with black text.
Year: 1977
NOTE: Members included co-founders Albert “Duke” Jones Jr. and Porter Carroll Jr., along with Clifford Archer, Sharon Bryant, Keith Johnson, Jonathan Lewis, Mark Malsky, Mark Slifstein, and Sheldon Tucker. The name “Newban” was arrived at because they were, in effect, a “New Band.”
Unfortunately for the group, Guinness Records was one of a number of outfits in the late 70s that intentionally undersold and underpromoted their albums so that their parent companies could use them as tax write-offs, and so the album failed to receive any significant promotion and today is quite rare.
Condition:
DISC: Overall EXCELLENT with full original gloss. There are a couple slight hairline paper scuffs. Side 1, Track 3 has a few light tics; otherwise entire LP plays beautifully with nice clean fidelity. Labels are clean.
JACKET: Jacket is nice VG+ with minor signs of wear and handling, but still quite presentable. Ring wear is noticeable on both front and reverse. There is also wear in several places along seams and spine, but no splits. No writing, stickers, or splits. Top right corner has been clipped to indicate the album was a cutout/deleted item.
Overall a great sounding original issue of this rare funk masterpiece from the group of young musicians who later achieved fame as Atlantic Starr.
