takeru muraoka/takao uematsu- ride and tie TOSHIBA EXPRESS ETJ-9002 (JAPAN) w/insert, subtitled "tenor battle live rec. at Ginza Junk", rec. early 1971, Uematsu & Muraoka on tenor sax with the great Hiromasa Suzuki on electric piano; rare visual grade: M- play grade: Vg++ (plays great ! check the link below for audios from the actual copy on auction) labels: clean cover: M conservative grading comments: hard to find (only once on ebay) LP with 4 long groovy jazz funk numbers (in the 40/50's tenor battle tradition) which drive the audience nuts (never heard Japanese folks get so excited !? :-) ! Hot Sunday is for the hip DJ or listener (or viceversa)... fab cover too ! http://sensationalxhols.org/ebay/index.htm recently re-issued on CD (which i don't think it's easy to find as well), below is a review i find of the CD: Funky, fuzzy, and outta site – a really wonderful set of extended psychedelic jazz numbers from twin tenorists Takeru Muraoka and Takao Uematsu! The set's billed as a live tenor "battle" on the cover – but it's hardly the sort of record that you'd hear from American players in this mode – no bebop jams, and instead some great soul and funk-influenced lines on the horns, served up over rhythm from a trio that features electric piano, electric bass, and drums from the mighty Motohiko Hino! There's a nice degree of fuzz on the saxes at times (are they using some effects pedals?) – and the long tunes really open up with a wicked groove that feels like some lost US jazz funk album from the early 70s. Titles include "Happy Birth", "Listen Here", "Hot Sunday", and "CC Rider".
