FIRST OFFICIAL 2025 US REISSUE!!!A San Francisco psychedelic rock band active roughly 1968�71, overseen by manager Matthew Katz (also tied to Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape, and It�s a Beautiful Day). The group grew out of The Ban (Lompoc, CA) and then The Now before moving north and adopting the Tripsichord Music Box name. The core lineup featured bassist�songwriter Dave Zandonatti, guitarist Frank Straight, keyboardist Oliver McKinney, and drummer Randy Guzman (often credited as Randy Gordon), with vocals from Bill Carr and later Ron McNeely. Their sound fused thick organ-and-guitar textures with layered harmonies and a reflective, devotional undercurrent in the lyrics. Remaining within Katz�s San Francisco Sound orbit rather than jumping to a major Los Angeles label helped keep them a cult proposition rather than a mainstream act.
Released in 1971 on Janus/San Francisco Sound, their lone LP compresses late-�60s Bay Area psych into nine concise, well-arranged tracks. Heavy fuzz surges alternate with organ-led, minor-key moods, while melodic hooks and stacked vocals carry darker, quasi-spiritual themes. Highlights include �On the Last Ride,� �We Have Passed Away,� �Black Door,� and �Son of the Morning.� Later reissues (Akarma, Kismet) broaden the picture with singles and compilation sides like �You�re the Woman,� �It�s Not Good,� �Family Song,� �Times and Seasons,� and �Sunday the Third.� Long overlooked, the album has since gained a reputation as a prized heavy-psych artifact.
