Description
This is a fine copy from a later repressing (runout #s IALP-9-A/IALP 9 B) of the fourth and final LP by the 13th Floor Elevators, originally released in early 1969. By this point, the group was coming apart after years of heavy drug use and lead singer Roky Erickson's declining mental state had taken their toll. Erickson is mostly absent on the recordings -- he sings lead on just four tracks -- and Tommy Hall's signature electric jug is missing altogether. Main songwriting duties fall on guitarist Stacy Sutherland, and while he comes up with some decent material ("Till Then," "Scarlet and Gold," "Street Song"), he's unable to fill the void left by the Erickson-Hall team. In sum, the record isn't bad, but nothing on it measures up to the highlights of the group's first two LPs. The jacket has some creasing and a little light scuffing on the back cover, and is otherwise close to pristine (EX+). The disc is clean, and plays with a little light surface noise (M-). The disc has a slight warp that has no appreciable effect on play.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs.
