Marie Michailowa, first coloratura at the Imperial Opera St PEtersburg, was the first international recording star: Her first recordings for Gaisberg and Berliner were pressed worldwide, though she never left Russia.

Evgeny Vladimirovich Wolf-Israel ( July 26 [ August 7 ] 1872 , St. Petersburg - September 26, 1956 , Leningrad ) - Russian and Soviet cellist . Father of the poet Sergei Wolf .
Graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory ( 1892 ), student of Alexander Verzhbilovich . In 1894 - 1951 years. played in the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater . As an ensemble performer he performed, in particular, together with Alexander Ziloti .
From 1921 he taught at the Leningrad Conservatory (until 1950 he taught the cello class, then the quartet class), from 1926 he was a professor. Among the students, in particular, Grigory Pekker and Boris Struve .
Buried at the Theological cemetery in St. Petersburg.
