Up for auction is Blue Note LP 5038 from 1954, A Night at Birdland with the Art Blakey Quintet. This is a 10 inch LP that bears the Lexington Ave. address on the label, has deep grooves on both sides, and bears the "ear" etched in the dead wax.
Sleeve: NM, absolutely pristine for something this old, the lone sign of use is a line of ink with a name printed above the title on the front cover. No seam splits, no ringwear, color is excellent and unfaded.
Record: NM-, with light scuffing on both sides from coming out of the sleeve (no inner sleeve is present), and one tiny scratch in the dead wax leading into side 1. No needle trails, superb condition for its age, looks like it was perhaps played once.
I am a university professor of music here in the US who inherited this and other records (Blue Note, Norgran, Impulse!, Columbia, Prestige, Fantasy, Riverside, etc.) from a collector and former radio DJ a few years back. I am looking to sell off some of these records to collectors/audiophiles who can get more enjoyment out of them than I can.
