Ward paraphrased by Maurice Whitney W37I5 Elwood Keister All-State Chorus director a-i the Third General Session, is head of voice and choral activities at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the University he was director of music at the First Methodist Chui ch in Greenville, North Carolina, for three years, taught voice and choral work at East Carolina College in Greenville from 1953 to 1957, and was director of music for “The Lost Colony” in the summers of 1956 and 1957. In the summer of 1961 Dr. Keister was director of the choral activities at Transylvania Music Camp. He has also been director of music, “Cross And Sword,” at St. Augustine. From 1947-1953 Keister was a teacher of voice and choral work at State College of Iowa. During that time he was a member of Robert Shaw’s Chorale 1951-52 (con- certs and recordings) and in the summers of 1951 and 1952 he was soloist and singer in New York churches. Keister holds a Bachelor of Music with a double major (voice and violin) from the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. He has a Master of Music degree (voice and music literature) from the Eastman School of Music. He holds a Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. For three seasons Keister was first violinist with the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been choral clinician and adjudicator in many mid-western and southern states. Keister served as president of the American Choral Directors Association, 1961-62.
