This auction is for two blues LPs, the first a double LP titled “The Excello Story”. Released on the Blue Horizon label, this is a compilation of some of the great blues names who recorded for Excello in the US in the 1950s and early ‘60s. Artists featured are Lightnin’ Slim, Lonesome Sundown, Little Al, Blue Charlie, Lazy Lester, Slim Harpo, Jimmy Anderson, Silas Hogan, Tabby Thomas, Whispering Smith, Willie Baker, The Gladiolas, The Crescendos, Lillian Offitt, Guitar Gable, Warren Storm, Shy Guy Douglas, The Blues Rockers (featuring pianist Lazy Bill Lucas), Jerry McCain & His Upstarts, Arthur Gunter, Clarence Samuels, Little Sonny, Baby Boy Warren and Robert Garrett. Compiled by Blues Unlimited contributor, John Broven, this is excellent value and a treasure trove of blues music! The second record is titled “The Real R&B” (EMI Stateside). Released on the Excello label in the States, this album features Slim Harpo, Whispering Smith, Silas Hogan, Leon Austin, Lonesome Sundown, Lightnin’ Slim, Jimmy Anderson, Earl Gaines and Arthur Gunter. The sleeve notes contain details of the 1964 album “Authentic Rhythm & Blues”, to which this was a follow-up from later the same year. As stated before, both records are in very good condition, ideal for the discerning blues collector!
