Description
Annabelle was written by the team of Maurice Shapiro and Buddy Feyne. Buddy wrote the lyrics and Maurice the music. From Wikipedia on Buddy Feyne: "Buddy Feyne (born Bernard Feinstein; June 9, 1912 – December 10, 1998) was an American lyricist during the swing era. He wrote the lyrics for "Tuxedo Junction", which went to No. 1 on the Billboard chart in 1940 when Glenn Miller recorded it, "Jersey Bounce", which was No. 15 on the Cash Box Hit Parade of 1942., and "Jumpin' with Symphony Sid"." His most famous song he wrote with Maurice Shapiro was, "Why", recorded by Nat King Cole and Karen Chandler.
These 3 78's were purchased from the estate of Maurice Shapiro. They are three different takes on the song, Annabelle. The only version I could find online was performed by the Sugar Tones on Onyx Records – O-2007, produced in 1951 with the flip side being, Today Is Your Birthday. Discogs describes the music style as Doo Wop. Here are the three versions in this listing:
The Sugar Tones - Annabelle. This looks to be a Test Pressing on the label, United Recording Laboratories. Both sides have the same song, and both sides have the word, "Copy" on the label. This may not be a 78 RPM, it has the thickness and weight of a 33 RPM. The surface has a good number of visible scratches on both sides, none the deep gauges, but I expect playability to be noisy. I'll grade the record Fair to Good conservatively. My higher visual grades include VG, VG+, VG++, and NM, for reference.
"Dance in Style With Teddy Tyle" His Singing Clarinet and His Orchestra, Vocal by Dona Mason - Annabelle on Side !, When I Dance (I Want To Dance With You) on Side 2. This flip side was also written by Maurice Shapiro and Buddy Feyne. Colony 111, PROMO copy. This is thicker, more likely 78 RPM. The surface is much cleaner, with light scratches and scuffs, I'll grade in the range of VG+ to VG++.
Dubonnet D-4024, one side is Annabelle performed by The Satisfiers with Rufus Smith Quintet, and the other side is, Call of the Range performed by Bill Harrington and The Satisfiers with Rufus Smith Quintet. This flip side also written by Maurice Shapiro and Buddy Feyne. This 78 LOOKS QUITE PLAYABLE with a faint scratch or scuff over a clean surface, I'll grade VG++.
