Original UK pressed Columbia Records mono two LP set, 33CXS 1211/33CX 1212.
The unusual catalogue numbers indicate that this is a three sided set, with one blank (etched) side.
Vinyl in visually near mint condition. The labels still have a high undulled lustre and there are no spider trail marks visible around the spindle areas. The embossed tax code shows no rubbing or whitening, always a good sign. The playing surfaces are glossy as new and even close inspection with a magnifying glass reveals no scuffs or scratches, not even fine sleeve removal type hairlines.
Playback is bright and clean and the LPs are clearly not groove damaged. The surfaces are underlyingly quiet and do not suffer background noise.
When play checking I noticed just one or two minor instances of dust crackle and very light soft and isolated ticks. There are no marks on the surfaces that would be the obvious cause of these, and they are mainly near the beginnings of sides. The overall effect is not enough to prevent a comfortable listening experience. I suspect that this is merely the result of light dusting or original imperfections in the recorded sound. The set is around 60 years old and I made no attempt to clean the surfaces before play testing. It is possible that finger dust debris may be a culprit, although no physical evidence suggests this. Given the general appearance of the set I see no reason for anything other than improvement in the recorded sound with a clean up.
Inner sleeves are original and in excellent condition. Just a fraction of age browning and around three tiny tanning spots to the corner of one sleeve only.
External front laminated sleeves at least VG plus. Front panels are bright and clean and there are no sticker, pen etc. marks to the sleeves. The rear panels have sustained some age toning and browning. The edge areas are generally clean and without wear or seam splits. The first sleeve has slight nibbling to top right corner and a little air pocketing to the surface laminate next to spine.
All in all a clean and tidy set however.
