33CX 1381 Blue/Gold - Brahms Violin Sonatas 1 & 2 LEONID KOGAN & Andrei Mitnik
This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so.
Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included, with the permission of the publishers, where these are available.
This hard to find record, never issued in Stereo, has been well looked after, as has its cover. Both are in excellent condition. The record has minimal surface marks, certainly none of the damaging kind, and plays very sweetly. The sound quality is excellent.
The Matrix Numbers are: Side 1: XAX-876-3N / Side 2: XAX-8877-1N
RECORD GRADING
EXCELLENT
Side 1
There are only about 4 light hairlines visible on the surface but I heard no unwanted sounds I could associate with them. The surface is clean and still retains its gleam.
There is a little very light surface sound in the run in and noticeable occasionally afterwards. There are dust-like light ticks/clicks from time to time but these are not particularly intrusive. I heard nothing repetitive on this side. The breaks between movements play almost silently.
Side 2
This side, too, has about the same number of hairlines, again not the damaging kind, and some feint sleeve rubbings. There is one very small spot on the surface in band 1 at about 7 0’clock’; it is not a scratch or mark to the surface but is, perhaps, a deposit. I have played over it 3 times and only heard about 3 small ticks. I suspect it will disappear given a clean.
Like side 1 there are some occasional dust-like light ticks/clicks, again not repetitive, and just a little surface noise. The sound quality is sweet and excellent.
COVER GRADING
EXCELLENT
The cover is really Excellent, I am even tempted to say outstanding. There is no damage and there are no marks anywhere. The laminate, front and back, is intact; the corners are hardly even scuffed; Remarkable for one which is probably now well over 50 years old.
The “Take good care of your records” inner is clean, undamaged and only lightly creased at the corners.

All I require is that you contact me within 7 days of its receipt to tell me you intend to return it, and that I receive the record in the same condition as it was when it was sent to you. MINT Record In brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality Cover In perfect condition, as are extra items such as thelyric sheet, booklet or poster EXCELLENT Record Shows signs of having been played, but with very little lessening in sound quality Cover Slight wear and / or creasing to the cover or its contents VERY GOOD Record Obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch Cover Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects GOOD Record Played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, and there may be some distortion and mild scratches Cover Suffers from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
