A BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET
PLANET EARTH (BLUE VINYL)
SIDE A: A BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET - PLANET EARTH
SIDE B: DB-X - TRANCE MISSIONS
THE HISTORY
This record is one of the most respected, renowned and hard to find tracks to ever surface out of the techno/rave scene. The only one recently seen on eBay went for £95 ($190) with 3 days left, some months ago. That was a black one. This however, is the stunning CLEAR BLUE VINYL version.
LIMITED EDITION
Like the black, there were just 500 of these created, during the famous, first and only pressing, back in 1992. That's it, there were only ever another 499 records like this, anywhere else, in the entire world. The chances of there being many left, some 12 years later, are very limited.
PRODUCTION
The record was made by techno pioneer Claude Young and is number 1 (SC-001) on his 7th City Records label, from Detroit. It has an etching on the B-Side, which reads "A NEW TRANCEMISSION FROM THE DETROIT UNDERGROUND" and on the A-Side it has another etching, which reads "THE ULTIMATE IN AUDIO DISTORTION". The A-Side of the label is designed to look worn but upon closer inspection actualy reveals a face. The B-Side has clear, precise and detailed production information.
THE TUNE
A no messing raw techno beat around 136bpm kicks off. A female sample repeats; "Planet. Earth. There is no planet earth." The beats break down and in comes one of the most goosebump riding, floor shaking, mind boggling techno stormers ever. It's cool, it's hard, it's pure. It then breaks down again, with an almighty tempo drop. It speeds up, all channels awry. A cacaphony which pushes and pulls in every sensory manner and then charges, into a distorted climax, which is fast pursued by a powerful, daunting and yet uplifting stereo mix-down, to peace! And that's just the A-Side. The B-Side is an even deeper piece of audio distortion which took/takes tempo play, sampling and trance itself, to a whole new level.
SOURCE
This particular piece of vinyl was purchased off of DJ STU J, in one of the South Coasts leading record shops at the time, Movement Records. It was then played at raves, alongside the likes of DJ's such as John Digweed, Colin Dale, Evil Eddie Richards, Aubrey, Mr C and so on.
THE DJ'S CHOICE
Planet Earth was, and still is, one of the afficionado DJ's favourites. DJ MADNESS, from Brooklyn, played this the very week it came out, at the South Coast underground mecca Interdance/Sterns, in Worthing. The place errupted and Planet Earth instantly became a rave/techno anthem in England. However, reading the info on the Internet nowadays, almost 15 years on, it seems Sterns was not the only club bowled over by its sheer hypnotic ferocity. This nostalgic, astral projecting tune went worldwide throughout the underground club/rave scene and has stayed there ever since. This really is Detroit at its finest.
CONDITION
This vinyl has been used but is in good to very good condition, especialy considering the age, the popularity and the rareness of the piece. The vinyl has, as expected, surface marks but these do not effect the play. It has been in the same record box since the day it was purchased. It has been regularly tested and does not jump. It's also still in its original white jacket and inner sleeve.
FOR THOSE WHO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
It's simple, it's intelligent. It's contemporary. As far as techno goes, this is a genre defining piece of vinyl, in it's raw and most beautiful CLEAR BLUE form.
