ACETATE ‘OAK’ DEMODISC. 45 RPM “RAINFALL BLUES”
Imagine my surprise when during the process of a recent house clearance I found not one but over fifty of these vintage acetate discs inside an old leather suitcase. Then imagine my dismay when I realised that I knew absolutely nothing about ‘em! Although the old vinyl 45s were the records of my hay day I have to admit that I have never come across an actual ’Demo Disc’ before. I have looked on Google, Ebay and other sites to see if I might gain some insight as to their history and value but it’s a ’minefield’ out there. Music is not a place for the uninitiated or the novice and I bow to the wisdom and knowledge of my superiors and consequently I will venture no further. With this in mind I offer all of the acetate discs, some single sided some double, in the fervent hope that some enterprising soul may see some equity in them. I have played all of these discs and sorted them into vocals, instrumentals and comedy and etc. Any severely ‘scratchy’ or ’jumpy’ ones I have kept to one side and all of these will eventually be offered as one lot. All of the records, when found, had a white covering of detritus on their surfaces. This I have wiped of gently, with a damp cloth, so as to avoid removing any of the acetate coating. This application has worked but in some cases there is still some surface contamination left. This residue is down to the buyer to shift, should there be one. Along with these ’Emidiscs’, some ’Oak’ labels, KPM Music and others of relative scarcity were found. All of these will be offered a. s. a. p.... or relegated to the dump due to lack of interest. All of these items are offered and described briefly in the superscription as to their content. IE....... Instrumental, instrumental plus vocal, comedy, female vocal, poetry (satire) and etc. My own opinion is that some have the sound of early, now well known artists, others are unknowns. Some are jolly good, others are somewhat brash, noisy, rocky! The choice is yours but surely each on its own rarity merit is worth a punt, if only for posterities sake.
This item is a double sided Oak Demodisc entitled “Rainfall Blues” flip side “Out Of The Darkness”. Sort of Russ Conway style/pub piano backed. Male vocal. Ballad. Jolly good, very playable.
