Description
Akai 4000DS - Mk2 Reel To Reel Tape Recorder
Serial Number 11002 - 03058
This lovely Akai tape deck is a pleasure to own.....
For sale is this stunning 4000DS Mk2 tape machine that's in outstanding condition with all it's original parts.
This model is the later version with the sprung spool retainers and detachable head cover.
These machines when new, gave the opportunity to copy music with virtually no loss of sound quality hence their huge popularity in the 70’s.
This tape recorder is supplied with 2 x 7” metal spools, 1 full & 1 empty and there are 4 additional boxed Sony 7 inch 1800ft - SLH -7-550 Low Noise Hi output tapes on black reels.
A copy of the manufacturers instruction manual is also included.
The machine has 2 speeds: 3.3/4 & 7.1/2 ips.
3 x heads - suitable for 'off tape' monitoring.
4 x track stereo 'sound-on-sound' recording facility.
Headphone output socket & left and right microphone inputs.
****
On the 3.3/4 speed with a 3600ft’ tape, the machine will record or play over 3hrs of music without having to be touched. By turning over the tape will give an additional 3hrs of time over 6 hrs in total.
****
I have checked all the mechanical & electronic functions and they operate as they should including spooling, recording and playing back.
The mechanical condition of this machine is excellent as it has just been serviced & lubricated.
VU meter illumination in good order too.
The overall cosmetic condition of the wooden case is pristine, just a few slight marks here and there but nothing major.
