AL GALLODORO rare 7" jazz sax promo EP & pic sleeve 4 tracks from Merri lp 5901 Shipping Info Description Rare / obscure vintage 7" 33 rpm jazz promo EP: (AL) GALLODORO (Excerpts from Merri Album No. 5901 - for DJs only) - 4 full tracks - Harlem Nocturne, Hora Staccato, I Heard You Cried Last Night, and Stardust. Released circa 1960, around the time of the hard-to-find Merri LP 5901. This promo has a small spindle hole and no catalog number of its own, and includes the picture sleeve. Al (Alfred) Gallodoro (1913-2008) was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, who performed from the 1920s up until his death. He is notable for having played lead alto sax with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and bass clarinet for 12 years with the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini. Bandleader Jimmy Dorsey praised him as "the best sax player who ever lived."
Condition: VG+/VG (the vinyl has minor-to-moderate scuffing and a couple of very soft, short, hairlines; plays VG+ with some occasional minimal background but no interruptions; the labels have some minor rubbing and a factory-caused wrinkle on each side; the sleeve has some tanning, wrinkling and a few short edge tears, and no splitting).
