Insurance is your option if you live in the US. $1.30 up to $50 and $2.50 up to $100. Because of the US Post Office policies, insuring international packages is prohibitively expensive – it raises the cost of the postage by 200% AND requires a full value customs declaration.

NOTE: This is a VINYL LP. It might be possible to get it into your CD player but it won’t be good for the LP or the CD player and whatever noises it may make will be entirely unexpected (and later issued as a box set on the kranky label under the name gods’s anise saliva or Peace Leopard Frequency or something).

GRADING: Unless a record is truly flawless or brand new but unsealed MINT MINUS (M-) is the highest grade given. The scale I use is from M- EX VG++ VG+ VG VG- with VG+ represent the condition of most LPs that have been taken care of but played over the course of 10-20 years. VG- LPs are records that have significant surface scratches and noticeable noise but do not skip and are still enjoyable. Records in this condition will be listed only when they are copies of LPs that are rare and expensive in M- condition. All items are guaranteed and may be returned for the full amount of the winning bid if you are not satisfied with the described condition; if SEALED LPs are shipped SEALED there is no guarantee (I know what reseals look like and do not sell them as sealed LPs); after receiving payment I can open sealed records here and inspect them before shipping. Any defects, or problems and your payment will be refunded in full. Always give a seller an opportunity to correct any problems before leaving feedback.

In nearly 2,000 transactions I have only had one problem, and that was with a guy who was happy with the items, but decided to complain about the shipping charges a couple months after the fact!

Psychedelic? Most of what I sell falls into the realm of records collected by people who collect psychedelic music of the 60s and 70s. Most of the time these people search eBay listings under the word “psych” and that’s why I almost always put that word in my item descriptions, even when it might not be all that appropriate.

Descriptions are often borrowed from listings in one of the Borderline Books (“Fuzz, Acid & Flowers,” “Tapestry of Delights,” “Dreams, Fantasies & Nightmares,” etc.), or from the All Music Guide or Acid Archives sites. I feel these are more objective than descriptions written by the people who are trying to get you to buy the record.

You have TEN DAYS from the end of the auction for payment to be received. Please don’t bid on inexpensive LPs that you won’t actually want if you win them (come to think of it, please don’t bid on expensive records if you don’t intend to pay for those either).

The end of the '60s saw many groups transitioning from psychedelic to progressive rock. One of these, Ame Son, was one of the earliest French rock bands to go beyond the conventional rock & roll of the time. Combining elements of psychedelic rock with avant jazz, they created a unique, improvised rock sound that laid the path for numerous other French progressive groups who stretched the boarders between rock and free jazz.

Ame Son's history goes back to the mid-'60s, when guitarist Bernard Lavialle, guitarist/vocalist Bernard Stizi, bassist Patrick Fontaine, and drummer Marc Blanc formed the group Les Primitivs. From 1965 to 1967, this rock band, influenced by British blues rock like the Yardbirds, played in and around Paris and also for three months on the island of Corsica. When Stizi left at the end of 1967, the other three formed Expression, a more psychedelic band that gigged not only at clubs but also progressive art exhibits as well. When Lavialle temporarily joined the Army, Blanc and Fontaine joined Bananamoon, Daevid Allen's group after leaving Soft Machine and before founding Gong, to play some gigs in Spain in the summer of 1968 and southern France early the next year.

Allen's influence in particular, as well as that of the underground psychedelic scene that came out of London that was mostly around the UFO club, was crucial to the development of the musicians by the time. Lavialle rejoined the others in June 1969, along with flutist Francois Garrel. At that time, Ame Son, which roughly means soul song or expressive song in French, was born. Within three months, they signed with BYG Records and in two days in London recorded the instrumental tracks of their only proper album. With vocals and final mixing done in October, Catalyse came out in early 1970. Their live performances at large festivals around France over the next year and a half met with both public and critical success, but the band broke up in June 1971. (AMG)

Laminated gatefold original French BYG pressing and a solid M-/M- but for discrete splits to top and bottom seams (so VG+/M-). Pretty unique and pretty fabulous psychedelic LP and definitely not one that gets offered around now or in the future. SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS.
