Description

I have been an obsessive collector of vinyl LP's and singles for many years, and from the very first I have always been very careful about the condition of the records I have bought. Once in my posession the records have been well stored and always very carefully handled. If the records have been played at all, it has always been on a good quality hi - fi system, the deck being a Linn LP12 deck with a top of the range arm and cartridge.

As a result, most of the many thousands of items in my collection are in excellent condition or better.

Now, in order to create more space at home, I have decided to cut the collection back to a core of my personal favourite artistes, and to dispose of the remainder. These I intend to list for auction over the coming months.

For auction here is one of the legendary folk records from the UK folk circuit, being a UK original mono copy of the Anne Briggs LP on the (blue) Topic label, number 12T 207, released in 1971. What is more this is a stunning copy.

The laminated cover has some minimal corner bumping, and some minor clarifoil lift down the spine (as usual) but is otherwise without significant fault. Being ultra picky there is the smallest of bend at the opening edge. The unlaminated rear is again really good with only the minorest of wear at the extreme top edge. This cover is in excellent condition. I should say that my pictures don't do it justice as its so hard to get a good clear shot when a laminated cover in good condition as so much light is reflected. I store this record in a new plastic sleeve protector and this will ship with the LP.

The original lined inner sleeve is present and except for one wavy corner is again excellent with little sign of age toning, it is still very white. The record is stored in, and will be shipped with, a brand new lined inner.

The vinyl is standout here, it is clean and bright and has very little in the way of visible surface features, and nothing that effected play as far as I could see. This is an extremely 'difficult' album as we have the sublime voice of Briggs singing unaccompanied. When she stops, everything stops, so when buying a copy of this album surface noise is the most important issue. There is very little surface noise on this copy, and on play I thought I could only hear the odd static pop and dust plip.

This is an LP that benefits from being kept scrupulously clean, or regular cleaned.

The labels of this copy are superb (see my pictures) with little or no sign of spindle hole wear. I have to say it sounds great on the Linn, and I would think you'd have to go a very long way indeed to find a better one than this.

Overall a truly standout copy of this practically legendary Anne Briggs which I'd rate in EX/EX condition.

It is offered at no reserve.
