Description

 Original 10" 33rpm deep groove LP ("Microgroove" pressing with ear symbol in dead wax) issued in the U.S.A. by Blue Note Records (767 Lexington Ave., NYC address on label) in 1954. Prefix and catalog number are BLP 5037. Complete title as follows, ART BLAKEY QUINTET 'A Night At Birdland Volume 1'. Track listing (Side 1): Split Kick. (Side 2): Once In A While / Quicksilver. Personnel: Clifford Brown (trumpet), Lou Donaldson (alto sax), Horace Silver (piano), Curly Russell (bass), Art Blakey (drums), with Pee-Wee Marquette (emcee). Recorded and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. This session was recorded live at Birdland, New York City, between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., February 21, 1954 before a large and receptive crowd. A really gorgeous example of this all-time bop jazz classic! Jacket is in nice VG++ condition with no writing, ringwear, stickers, stains, seamsplits, bends/creases, tears or tape. Shows some minor spine/edgewear. Has price and date neatly penciled-in in small numbers/letters on backside top left and right corners as was common practice in record stores of the day. Record is in nice VG++ condition still retaining it's original lustre/sheen. Side 1 grades a strong VG++. Has a a couple of light paper scuffs (2-3). Side 2 is in a lesser VG++ condition with a couple of light paper scuffs and a couple of small light hairlines that do not affect play. I have owned this particular LP for over 25 years now and have only played it 4 to 5 times. There are only a couple of detectable light pops (not skips) that I recall which will probably disappear with a deep cleaning (I'd do it myself buy my Nitty Gritty is down right now). Never thought I would ever sell this piece but the time has come. Help me find a good home for it.
