Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers  ?– The Big Beat

Blue Note ?– BLP 4029  -  LP, Mono, USA - 1st Press.

Released: May 1960

Recorded on March 6, 1960.
VINYL Grading: VG & VG/+

Vinyl: Side 1: Decent VG - several hairline marking, 2 light scratch marks end of track A2 & A3 - see in pic, not feel-able - thats the worst ones. No audible clicks / pops, mild surface noise evident at different times, a better cleaning system than mine might squeeze more out than VG... Clean label, with spindle marking when light reflected.

Side 2: Erring towards VG+ Better looking than S1 - hairline marking here but no visible surface scratches like S1. No audible clicks pops, less surface noise evident other than in-between tunes. Clean label, with lighter than S1 - milder spindle marking when light reflected. Again further cleaning advised.


Has been living poly lined sleeve for many years now.  Been looked after since I bought in Edinburgh '05.


SLEEVE GRADING:    VG/+

Front: Laminated - flaking a little at opening edge - pic. Minor shelf wear to gloss - pic. Minor thumb hold crease at front bottom R, hidden in cymbal stand though.

Spine: Solid all round - no splits! Fully legible & sharp titles see pic. Wear at tips.

Rear: Minor shelf wear to ageing white. 

Top L some small tear of paper top R & top middle rear. Pix.

Has original import duty (& price?) stamps on top R. Lived in protective sleeve for 20+ years.


1st original Mono issue has: 
- blue/white deep groove Blue Note Records INC - 47 West 63rd - NYC labels,

- RVG stamped in the dead wax, both sides, pix
- "P" (otherwise wrongly called "ear") Plastylite plant etched in trail off, both sides, 
- no address on back cover - pic of lower rear R.
