Description
Festival Records started out in Oz in 1952 and distribution deals were later made with major overseas labels, Island being one such example as represented here. So, the 1967 Island UK issue number of this LP is ILP 967 and this example was made Down Under under licence. Indeed, the machine etched alpha numeric matrix on this mono record is ILP + 967 + A for side 1 and ILP + 967 + B for side 2.
No issue date is shown on the record label or sleeve and I've tried to find more info on Google against this catalogue issue FL32-790. What I did find was a Festival issue date of July 1968 for the LP 'Live at Sebastians' by the Australian group Procession. As this particular record is given as FL32-903 then it's no great leap of deduction to plant the Art release in 1967. If anyone knows better or can add further then please let us know!
The single flip back sleeve is laminated on the front and plain glossy on the rear. No rips, tears or seam splits and the only marking is where the stereo nomenclature is crossed out on the rear RHS top. And being in circulation for 50 years the sleeve albeit solid does show ringwear, edge wear and corner rubbing as the photos show. Condition wise I give it 6 /10.
The blue and silver labels are nice and clean with the UK issue reference ILP-967 denoted in brackets. Spindle holes are tight with evidence of just a handful of plays. As you can see there is a misprint on the labels ref the LP title (TALE instead of TALES).
As for the vinyl itself, it's flat and is a fairly solid piece of plastic. No wafer later issues here! Always I seem to be reporting on my listings that a record is shiny and clean looking and is no different now. But yet again under a searching and unforgiving light I see various paper scuffs and handling marks which detract from its' otherwise high rating. As such I give it 7.5 /10 for condition at worse; maybe an 8/10 but it pays to be conservative. Obviously the sleeve and inner poly have protected it over the years.
Finally, the original inner sleeve is of the shaped polythene variety which makes a nice change from plain paper and particularly where the latter sometimes has insides akin to sandpaper!
