Telemanns Innovation ist frisch und sein Idiom vielfältig, ich habe beim Hören dieser Stücke oft das Gefühl gehabt, dass sie den Interpreten mehr interessieren als seine Violinkonzerte ... In den meisten Fällen spielt Grumiaux die Fantasien mit dem Gefühl und Einblick, die wir erwarten. Puristen werden von Zeit zu Zeit durch das Vorhandensein eines Vibratos gestört, das in einer streng 'barocken' Aufführung keinen Platz hätte; nur gelegentlich war mir auch eine Unbeholfenheit der Phrasierung und der unsicheren Intonation bewusst, aber das hinderte mich nicht daran, die Aufführung einer weniger bekannten Musik eines Komponisten zu genießen, der ein großer Liebling von mir ist. Eine sehr interessante Veröffentlichung. - Grammophon
Telemann’s invention is fresh and his idiom varied and I often felt while listening to these pieces that they offered more of interest to the performer than his violin concertos ... For the most part Grumiaux plays the Fantasies with the sympathy and insight which we expect. Purists will be bothered from time to time by the presence of a vibrato which would have no place in a strictly ‘baroque’ performance; just occasionally, too, I was aware of an awkwardness of phrasing and of insecure intonation but these did not prevent me from enjoying a recital of some less familiar music by a composer who is a great favourite of mine. Elman still plays with charm and elegance ... In this batch of pieces, where the encore wags the concert, so to speak, Elman and Seiger combine war-horses and novelties in captivating manner. I was charmed by the exotic "From San Domingo", by Arthur Benjamin, with its echoes of guitars and popular songs. Charles Miller’s "Cubanaise" ... (its) vivacious rhythms and sonorous middle section are most appealing. Perhaps the item that most listeners will fall for is Elman’s arrangement of the so-called "Canto Amoroso" by Sammartini, an encore which Elman has made peculiarly his own. - Gramophone
