ASD 255 w/g – MICHELANGELI – RACHMANINOV / RAVEL – PIANO CONCERTOS
HMV stereo recording on white/gold label catalogue number ASD 255. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli playing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.4 in G minor Op.40 & Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with Ettore Gracis conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The disc is clean and shiny. Side 1 (Rachmaninov) has a 1½cm light scratch and occasional VERY faint marks; there is a brief crackle before the start and about 30 ticks, mainly random, mainly very light and soon forgotten. Side 2 has no visible marks but about 10 barely audible ticks. Not a perfect copy but still a great sounding recording. The thin card laminated sleeve is VERY scruffy with serious edge/corner scuffing, tears at right-hand front edge and laminate lift.
