A masterpiece of improvisational jazz here from this group of masters from the VERY early 70's.
Recorded Jan.27,1970, this is my 2nd eldest record containing the work of M. Phillips, who actually
'penned' (is credited with) 3 of the 9 'tunes' contained here. This is really jamming, mostly stream of
consciousness stuff where the horns take the lead with crazy harmonics and all that. Stu Martin ( and
M.Drouet) contribute much percussive cacophony at various times as well. I guess this label was an
extension of the BYG (recorded everything that moved!) avant thing in this, late 60's, early 70's Paris.
Ze record plays very nicely, merci, with amazingly little THD (trans-harmonic distortion),
amazing considering the crazy dynamic and frequency range of this disc. At one point you can hear
the super-low bowing of Phillips, with the saxes trilling and improving all over the place over the top.
