It hasnt opened my ears and mind the way that the ISB, Vashti and Tower Recordings did, but I like it...and there are tracks here that are nigh on perfect, really...
Such a wonderful album. Anne's voice is fantastic, and one of the best in the folk field. She influenced Sandy Denny, Bert Jansch, and others. She only did a couple albums and then retired becuase she thought her voice didn't sound good recorded, which is CRAZY. Anne Briggs is about as good as it gets. That style is the soft, acoustic guitar driven, solo vocalist folk - She sings like an angel, her voice hauntingly beautiful. And this, coupled with some decent songwriting,
'Standing On The Shore' is as beautiful and enigmatic a life statement as you could wish to hear. Traditional songs and some of her own creation. Fans of British folk & folk-rock should definately get this album.
