Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Temple, German vinyl LP album record OMM 56.013 OHR 1971.
I believe this is a very rare 1971/72 pressing of this German 2-track vinyl LP. It has a five digit catalogue number on the front of the sleeve and spine but the label has six digits.
This record has not been played since the 80s when I swiched to CD, visually there are very slight marks but these look like they are from taking the record in and out of the plastic lined inner sleeve. I am unable to play the album to check the sound.
It has the double fold-out sleeve, this has a crease to the front left hand side which can be seen in the picture, the corners are worn and are starting to show little splits, these can be seen on the picture of the first inner.
The left hand inner page has a similar crease to the front but its a little less obvious. All the inner pages are a little grubby but they are nearly 50 years old. The lighting for the pictures has made the white areas look yellowish but in reality they are white.
The record sleeve is plastic lined and has what looks like water staining to the bottom edge. The plastic has become detached from the paper so care is needed when putting the record in. There is a small tear (1cm) to the paper radiating out from the centre cut out.
I discovered Tangerine Dream on the John Peel programme in 1973 and became really interested in german experimental music. I remember that I had heard Manuel Gottschings Inventions for Electric Guitar before I bought this and that came out in 1975. I bought this sometime after
I never found a CD version of this, so it has stayed with the rest of my record collection.
I'm not going to buy a turntable now, so its all going.
(I have recently listened to the album on you tube and it sounds pretty much as I remembered it, incredible guitar by Manuel Gotsching and drums/percussion and electronics from Klaus Schulze
Essential listening for anyone who is interested in electronic music.)
