Description

Pikler & the Sydney - BACH-STOKOWSKI, Symphonic Transcriptions - Rare Chandos ABR-1055 (UK Pressing) - TAS

One of the most difficult TAS records to find, this is the 1982 Chandos release that captures the playing of Stokowski's symphonic transcriptions of familiar Bach works.

Frankly, it's hard to imagine how well these pieces work, if you have not heard them.

The TOCCATA AND FUGUE IN D, after all, and the PASSACAGLIA AND FUGUE IN C, are pieces we know well, written for organ. But, here, transcribed for orchestra, sound so darn magical.

There is, in the listening, in fact, not a moment when you don't believe, utterly, that this is how they were originally written.

An enchanting disc, to be sure, and, yes, I will go as far as to say, a wonder to behold, especially on a truly fine hi-fi system.

This rare copy is in fine shape. Cover like new, with just a wee bit of yellowing (nothing serious).

Disc within still shines. Near mint, perhaps better, in the playing.
