THE BATTERED ORNAMENTS - Mantle Piece ORIG Harvest LP SHVL 758 (UK, FACTORY SAMPLE, Stereo, 1969)

Happy and privileged to present one of the very rarest original UK Harvest SHVLs the fantastic Mantle Piece recorded without Pete Brown and probably the better for it. NO DOUBT THIS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST HARVEST LPS TO FIND! Not only is this a splendid example (the sleeve will knock you out!) but it is also an incredibly scarce FACTORY SAMPLE, and as such one of the earliest copies you will find.

The outer laminated original E.J Day gatefold sleeve is in a crucial top state and just looks wonderful. Many would go near mint on this beauty and it is very close. There are just one or two signs of age, these being: one ‘thumb’ crease to the front and two to the back, a tiny crease from the top edge (front) and one from the bottom edge (though hardly noticeable), light rubbing to the bottom edge, slight corner wear (though all corners are still 90% strong), a very small loss of laminate to the spine bottom, a little laminate shrinkage to the opening edges and light toning (not yellowing) to the white rear panel. Other than these, there are NO splits, chips, loss of shape (sleeve is superbly flat and defined). NO real ring impression, feathering, loss of colour, tears, writing or sticker residue. THIS IS A FANTASTIC FRESH EXAMPLE OF THIS 40 YEAR OLD SLEEVE and will sit proudly in any Harvest collection, if not take outright pride of place!! Worthy of a minimum EX+ (Excellent Plus), the spine is just magnificent (see photos).

The original NO boxed EMI labels are again in splendid shape and show the original 1960’s factory sample sticker to Side 1. There is NO writing, dirt, residue or tears to the iconic Harvest design and just mild spindle trails to one side only.

The medium weight vinyl comes in at a visual EX- (Excellent Minus). It’s little played that’s for sure and sounds fantastic with NO snap, pops, hiss, and no distortion or loss of clarity - it sounds superbly clear. There is the occasional patch of soft surface and the occasional light tick, but it’s drowned and barely registers. SUPERB AUDIO, worthy of an EX+ play grade. Visually there are 3 scuff lines to Side 2 (completely superficial) and a couple of tiny finger lines to Side 1. This side also shows some larger scuffing, (really soft and purely on the surface) indicative of cleaning rubs. None of these cosmetic markings (which are all hard to notice) affects the audio, but I OUTLINE ALL BLEMISHES! Rest assured this is a pretty looking disc with minimal play, and an important factory sample of this harvest rarity.

The Sound of ‘69, the birth of Prog? Not many can say because so few bought this gem all those years ago. That is why this overlooked LP is so very hard to find today. But here it is, ready to take its place in the very best collections. Low start! No reserve!
